Demon Repellent
I have done a lot of fishing in my life.
I learned that certain fish are attracted to certain things.
Some fish are attracted to movement, or to something shiny, or to a sound, or even to a smell.
Some fish, like sharks, are attracted to the smell of blood from a quarter of a mile away.
Demons are on this earth currently.
We do not know their exact number, but we know from Scripture that one third of the total angel population rebelled against God and were removed from heaven and are awaiting their final judgment here on earth.
The good news is that demons are limited in power, presence, and knowledge.
They copy many of the behaviors of the chief demon, Satan.
And just like Satan, they can be attracted and they can be resisted, and they can be repelled.
They can run toward you, or they can run away from you.
If you are an authentic Christian, you cannot be possessed by a demon, but you can be influenced by one or more of them.
If you do not have Jesus Christ as your Saviour and you do not have the Holy Spirit living inside you, then you are able to not only be demon possessed, but you are more easily demon influenced in your thoughts and actions.
Each demon is of a different level of power and knowledge and they work together to defeat God's purposes on Earth.
Our reading:
2Co 6:14 KJV Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Pray
We are told here that Christians can be influenced by the demons of others.
If we keep company with unsaved people, we can be influenced to sin by the demons that are influencing them.
We learned in the Old Testament that a clean priest is easily made dirty by coming in contact with things that are dirty.
We know this today in our daily life. How many times have you gone into the bathroom of a restaurant and found a sign saying all employees must wash their hands before returning to work.
Clean hands are easily made dirty, by dirty surfaces transferring the dirt to them, but clean hands do not transfer their cleanliness to the dirty surfaces.
Dirty hands must be washed often to stay clean.
A clean Christian can be influenced to sin and become unclean when they associate with the unsaved, because they are coming in close contact with the demons of the unsaved.
Good, holy, pure, righteous Christians are much more likely to loosen their moral boundaries and become more permissive of sin when they are with unsaved people, than with saved people.
Christians are more likely to engage in lustful activities, stealing, deception, lying, drinking, anger, and even cussing the closer they are to the unsaved.
That is why we are commanded
1Co 15:33 KJV Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
If we feel comfortable enough to talk sin, we are more likely to do sin.
Cussing, lying, mocking holiness, scorning righteous behavior, insulting God's laws are the behaviors that come before sinful behavior
1Co 15:33 KJV Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
What does God tell us to do?
2Co 6:14 KJV Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
We are to reduce our association with the unsaved as much as possible because when you associate with the unsaved, you associate with their demons as well.
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
When we associate ourselves with the demons of the unsaved, it is as if we are allowing demons to throw dirt in God's temple.
A dirty temple is not as useful as a clean temple.
The Christian is commanded by God:
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
We are to separate from the unsaved and their demons as best as we can so we do not have to fight unnecessary battles.
Some of the battles we fight are surprise attacks by demons, but sometimes we invite the attacks by attracting unnecessary attention
We can reduce demonic attacks by limiting the places we go and the people we go with that are demonic hangouts.
If you do go, do not be surprised at how easily you become relaxed toward sin.
When you are comfortable having fun around a group of unsaved people, you are also enjoying being influenced by their demons.
come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord
Imagine how this passage pertains to bars, night clubs, certain parties, certain festivals, even Halloween.
When God tells us:
1Th 5:22 KJV Abstain from all appearance of evil.
it is not a suggestion, it is a command and either you will submit to God and obey it, or you will submit to demonic influence and rebel against it.
You can not decorate your home for a satanic celebration and at the same time abstain from all appearance of evil.
You can not go to a bar, or a night club, and at the same time abstain from all appearance of evil.
You can not watch certain movies or read certain books and at the same time abstain from all appearance of evil.
You can not go out with certain people and at the same time abstain from all appearance of evil.
The demons know there are certain people or influences you are not strong enough to resist.
God knows this too and that is why His commands are to separate yourself from them.
2Co 6:14 KJV Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2Co 6:17 KJV Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
1Th 5:22 KJV Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Psa 1:1 KJV Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Jesus taught us about demonic activities in Luke
Luk 11: 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
Jesus gives us another look at the workings of demons
There are various strengths of demons just like there are various strengths of Christians.
In the physical world, toddlers are stronger than infants, and teens are stronger than toddlers.
In the spiritual world there are infants, and little children, and young men and fathers, each having a higher level of spiritual strength.
Spiritual fathers know more, do more, and accomplish more than spiritual infants.
Demons can more easily influence spiritual infants than spiritual fathers.
Luk 11:21 KJV When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
Yes put on the whole armour of God, but just putting it on is not enough.
We have to be mature and strong with its use.
Imagine a child trying to use a sword bigger than he is - it will not work.
Imagine a child trying to wear a man’s breastplate - it will not protect him at all
Luk 11:21 KJV When a strong man (an mature authentic Christian) armed (armed with the sword of the Spirit, having a mastery and proficiency with God's Word) keepeth guards, protects) his palace (the temple of God; his body; his mind; his spirit), his goods are in peace:
Isa 26:3 KJV Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
22 But when a stronger (stronger spiritual being) than he (when compared to a weaker, less mature Christian) shall come upon him, (attack him physically, mentally or spiritually) and overcome him (cause doubt and sin), he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted (the Christian becomes defeated because he thought he was going to be victorious just because of the presence of the armor), and divideth his spoils.
2Jn 1:8 KJV Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
The demons want you to lose your reward.
They want you to only receive a partial reward instead of a full reward.
1Co 3:13 KJV Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
How do you get stronger and win more battles?
We already saw that separating yourself from demonic people and places is going to help you win.
We also need separate ourselves from demonic things
Look again at our reading
2Co 6:17 KJV Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
In Acts we are told about a large group of people that became saved.
Act 19:18 KJV And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
My family does not decorate for Halloween because we do not like to tell the demons that they are welcome.
We do not want the demons to feel comfortable in our house.
We want the Word of God to prevail in our home and in our hearts.

Sermon Notes: Fighting Demons
Demon fighting
Have you ever wondered what demons know?
Can demons read your mind?
Can demons place a thought into your head?
What can demons know, and how do we fight them?
If you are not fighting them, you are helping them.
Reading:
Heb 4:12 KJV For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Pray
I preached last week about the limitations of Satan.
Just as a quick review, Satan is not Omnipresent, God is.
Satan is not Omniscient, God is
And Satan is not Omnipotent, God is.
There are certain things Satan and the demons are allowed to do, and many things Satan and his demons cannot do.
As far as reading your mind, our opening reading from Hebrews says:
Heb 4:12 KJV For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
In our battle gear there are several defensive pieces: the shield, the helmet, the breastplate and others,
But the one offensive weapon is the sword and our sword is the Word of God.
When Jesus was being tempted to sin, He used the Sword of the Spirit very skillfully.
Mat 4:1 KJV Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.note
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
3 times Jesus was tempted.
2 times Satan said, If you are the Son of God meaning Satan was not really sure about Jesus' true identity.
3 times Jesus responded by quoting God's Word.
No super power, no revealing His identity. Just quoting Scripture.
Jesus did Exactly what we are able to do He used the quoting of Scripture to make Satan flee.
Jas 4:7 KJV Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
But at other times the demons, who are lesser beings than Satan, knew exactly who Jesus was
Mat 8:28 KJV And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
Luk 4:40 KJV Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.
The devils or demons could not read Jesus' mind, but by observation and hearing Jesus they were able to recognize Him.
Act 16:16 KJV And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
How did the spirit, or demon, recognize Paul?
Not through mind reading, but through observation and listening.
When we combine the events of Matthew 4 with
Heb 4:12 KJV For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Heb 4:13 KJV Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Here the Word of God is identified as not just the words of the Bible, but the presence of Jesus Christ
The Word of John 1 that became flesh.
When we quote Scripture we are not saying magic words from a magic book.
It is not the Christian version of spell casting
We are actually saying the words that Jesus said.
All Scripture is given by the breath of God
It is not the Bible which has the power, it is the Author, the Creator of heaven and earth.
As you can see the demons do not have the power of mind reading, but they do have the power to hear your words, to see your facial expressions and to guess what is happening and what you will do next.
1Ki 8:39 KJV Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)
Only God knows what is in the heart of man
Satan and his demons are limited to what they can see and what they can hear when they are either physically present or when they are informed by another being.
Demonic resources are limited. Satan will not assign a powerful demon to do something that a weaker demon can do.
This way the easier jobs are done by weaker demons and harder jobs are done by stronger demons.
Satan has many more weaker demons than stronger demons so he uses the strongest demons for the hardest jobs.
Think about the angel world like the military world. There is rank, there is authority, there are duties and responsibilities, there are orders and objectives.
Satan will even put multiple weaker demons with one person than waste his more powerful demons.
Demons can only come inside an unsaved person.
A saved person, someone that has been born again, an authentic Christian, has the Holy Spirit living inside them.
There is no way any demon, or even Satan himself, can move into the same place as the Holy Spirit.
However demons can move into any unsaved person at will and stay as long as they want.
The unsaved person has no presence of the Holy Spirit to stop the demon from coming in.
If the unsaved person, possessed by a demon, comes in contact with an authentic Christian, that Christian by the power of God, can cast the demon out.
If the unsaved person has the demon removed and remains unsaved, the situation will become much worse.
Mat 12:43 KJV
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
It is also not a good idea for unsaved people to try and cast out demons
Act 19:11 KJV And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Even if you are saved, it is not always possible for weak Christians to cast out strong demons
How do you cast out strong demons?
17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
Some of you, in order to grow mighty in the Word of God, need to first throw out your objects of Satan.
That is why we are careful about the symbols and the images we use in the church and in my home.
You may also need to spend more time in study of God's Word, in prayer, in fasting, in witnessing, in submission to God's law.
Mat 17:14 KJV And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Are you saved? Do you know Jesus as your Saviour, your Master, your Friend?
How skilled are you with the Sword of the Spirit? The Holy Bible?
Are you praying and fasting?
If Jesus were to say, I want you to cast out a demon, would you be ready?

Sermon Notes: Satan the Enemy: How to Win!
Satan our Enemy
Satan is a real being, just as real as you and me.
He is not the same as you and me, but he is just as real.
When I was in the Army, it was my job to understand the enemy.
If you are a Christian, you need to know your enemy too.
It will really help you to understand how Satan, our enemy, thinks, acts and behaves.
It will also help you to understand Satan has limits and habits and methods he likes to use.
Satan is a liar.
If you do not understand, Satan will try to fool you into thinking he can do things that he really can not do.
First you must understand: Satan is a created being.
Reading
Joh 1:1 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Pray
Jesus is the same Creator we read about in Genesis.
Jesus is God, is the Creator, and He existed without being created.
Nobody made Jesus, but Jesus created all things.
Jesus created the plants and Jesus created the planets.
Jesus created ants and Jesus created the angels.
Look again at verse 3
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
When we speak about Satan, Satan would love for people to believe one of two main lies:
either that there is no real being as Satan
This is a very common lie people believe today. They think of Satan like the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy.
If you do not believe that Satan exists and that he is a real being, you will never fight him or defend yourself from his attacks.
The second lie Satan likes to use is that Satan and Jesus are equal in power and ability
Both of these ideas are lies from Satan.
Col 1:12 KJV Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:note
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Jesus is the Creator and all others are created.
Jesus is unlimited. Satan and All others are limited.
Jesus is Omniscient,
Jesus knows everything.
Satan has a lot of knowledge but compared to Jesus Satan knows very little
Jesus is Omnipresent,
Jesus can be every place at the same time
Satan is limited in time and space - he can only be one place at one time
and Jesus is Omnipotent
Jesus is significantly greater in power with the power of death and the power of life and the power of resurrection.
Joh 10:10 KJV The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Which do you think is harder, killing something alive or giving life to something that is dead?
Satan originally was a holy angel named Lucifer and Satan decided to rebel against God and become equal to God.
Satan forgot that he was a created being and God was the Creator.
Isa 14:12 KJV How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
When Jesus created the Angels, all the angels were created, holy and good.
Jesus did not invent sin, Satan did by his rebellion to God's authority.
As a response to Satan's pride and rebellion, God told Satan, You're fired!
Satan and the 1/3 of the angels that followed him were kicked out of heaven and sent to earth.
Eze 28:12 KJV Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Satan had authority over 1/3 of the angels in heaven and Revelation tells us when Satan rebelled, the other angels followed and they all were kicked out of heaven.
Satan and the kicked out angels, now called demons, were forced to stay on earth until their final judgment.
Satan took 1 out of every 2 angels with him.
That means for every 1 demonic fallen angel there are 2 righteous, holy angels!
Satan is a liar and has been lying from the beginning
Satan lies to people and says you can become rich by playing casino games
He does not call it the sin of covetousness
Satan lies and says you deserve better: a better life, better spouse, better possessions
What he does not tell you that your discontentment is really pride and lust.
Satan lies and encourages people to use foul, dirty language by cursing and using the Lord's name in vain
He does not warn you that God is grieved by our worldly vocabulary and violations of His commands to keep His name sacred and holy.
Satan is pleased when you make God grieved and Satan gets upset when you make God pleased.
Eph 6:10 KJV Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Last week we saw that the Holy Spirit lives inside of us and gives us protection, wisdom and understanding.
No Christian can be possessed by a demon because they are already possessed by the Holy Spirit.
If we submit to God and resist the devil, he will flee from us.
Jas 4:7 KJV Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Satan has no power over a Christian unless the Christian gives him access.
According to this passage, we have the ability to make Satan, and any of the weaker demons, to leave us.
How? First you must submit to God. And the first step to submitting to God is becoming born again.
Submitting to God is also repenting of your sins even while a Christian
You will never be successful resisting Satan unless you first submit yourself to God.
You also submit to God by confessing your sin daily.
Satan knows if are close to God you are a threat to his plans
Our goal as Christians is to draw close to God, and resist the devil
It is just that simple.

Sermon Notes: Possessed by the Holy Spirit
Today begins our series on spiritual warfare.
This series will take us all the way through October and will include Halloween.
It is important for us to lay a clear biblical foundation so, as we study about our enemies, we can see what they can and can not do.
There are two worlds: the physical world and the spiritual world.
The physical world is separate, but not disconnected from the spiritual world.
You can do things in your body, that will impact your spiritual self.
For example, when you were born, you were born with a living body, a living mind and a present but dead soul.
Jesus tried to explain this to Nicodemus
Reading
Joh 3:1 KJV There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Pray
How do you become born again?
Joh 3:15 KJV
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
When you become born again, you are saved from the consequences, or the punishment, of your sin.
When you told Jesus Christ by faith that you believe He died for you, and asked Jesus Christ to forgive your sin, you were born again.
At that instant you were saved the Holy Spirit of God entered into you and lives inside of you ever since.
Joh 14:15 KJV If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.note
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
The Holy Ghost (also called the Holy Spirit, also called the Comforter) enters into you and provides you with many good and powerful spiritual blessings.
Joh 16:4 KJV But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
The Holy Spirit is a person and is one with the Father and with Jesus, the Son
1Jn 5:7 KJV For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
When you have been born again you are filled with the Holy Spirit and He is sealed inside you
Eph 1:12 KJV That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
If you have ever used Tupperware, or Rubbermaid, you understand about sealing something inside a container.
That lid provides a temporary seal until the time when it needs to be opened, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption or the Rapture
When you are saved, the Holy Spirit is sealed inside your soul, which is sealed inside your body.
1Co 6:19 KJV What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
We can make the Holy Spirit happy with our thoughts, words, and actions, or we can make the Holy Spirit sad
Eph 4:30 KJV And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
When you are engaging people, you are engaging only two types of people:
People that have the Holy Spirit and those that do not have the Holy Spirit.
1Jn 4:1 KJV Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
When you are saved, the Holy Spirit is in you, and with you, and communicates with you every day.
Heb 13:5 KJVLet your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
God loves you for many reasons but primarily because God created you, and He purchased you with his own blood, and he had forgiven you in salvation, and He is preparing a place for you to live with Him forever, and He lives inside you right now, and He will never leave you.
1Jn 4:18 KJV There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
There is nothing to fear, even when the world gets scared at news events, or politics, or the price of living, or even of Satan himself.
We do not fear because,
greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
